(Un)Altered Books: Unheard Voices - Connecting the Impactful & Unsung with our Nation’s Promise and Strength

Exhibition | Sep 14 - Nov 15, 2026
Anderson Academic Commons – Denver University
Located in the University of Denver, 2150 E Evans Ave, Denver, CO 80208

The project is a partnership between the Women's Caucus for Art Colorado Chapter, the University of Denver Libraries. and the Blair Caldwell Library.

(Un)Altered Books: Unheard Voices invites artists to reclaim banned books and overlooked, erased, or silenced histories through visual book-based art forms. Using books as object, structure, or metaphor, artists will transform research, archives, and lived experience into powerful acts of storytelling and restoration that tell the full story of us.
This project blends artmaking, research, archives, and community engagement, offering artists
guided access to historical resources, bookmaking techniques, and a supportive creative cohort. This project is in partnership with the Women’s Caucus for Art – Colorado, University of Denver Libraries and the Blair Caldwell Library.
All visual media welcome, including altered books, mixed media, sculpture, painting, photography, and interdisciplinary work. The exhibition invites 2D and 3D artists. Artists need to be sure their work meets the maximum size requirements of 20"H x 13"W x 13"D for glass library case display. Artists who have 2D in the exhibit will need to provide their own small easel. We are unable to hang 2D art.
