Artist Statement

How do we reconcile the life of the mind with the pleasures of the flesh? How do we live in the world of ideas while also facing our own desires and mortality? Tiptoeing around any strict dichotomy of mind and body, I’m interested in creating objects, systems, visual languages, and references that allude to the places where critical thought and sexuality meet––where we are both philosophers and human animals.

In my photograms, installations, and sculptures, I’ve been using substitution, transparency, notions of excess, and the politics of everyday objects as methods of working with hierarchies and questioning totalizing structures and theories.
