Artist Statement

Danielle (Dani) Cunningham is a multimedia artist, an art historian, and an advocate for mentally ill people. Interested first and foremost in the lives of materials, she draws from mysticism and science fiction/fantasy themes to transform everyday matter like concrete, machinery, and craft supplies into otherworldly objects. She often uses these objects to investigate the impact of capitalism on gender, sexuality, and mental illness. Danielle has curated exhibitions, and created performances and installations exploring magick as a means of de-stigmatizing mental illness. She also regularly reviews regional exhibitions, writes about disability and cyborgism, and is the co-founder of chant cooperative. Dani is a resident artist at the Temple Contemporary Artist Haven in Denver, CO.
